One Month

I can not believe we’ve had a baby for ONE WHOLE MONTH!?!!  Well really as of right now it’s more like 6 weeks.  Yeah, it’s harder to get posts done when you have a baby to take care of!  We are so in love with him and say every day, ‘I can not believe we have a baby.’  Really, how are we so lucky to have him???  I experienced true love when I fell in love with Brandon but this is just such a different type of love that I have for Caden.

This is a silly example but my mom has always had a fish tank in her house ever since I can remember.  She also up-keeps the one in her office.  I have always said that I didn’t want a fish tank… they’re just boring to me- fish are just such ‘cold’ creatures.  But when I went to visit my mom this past week we discovered that Caden LOVES (really he does, he told me) fish tanks.  When he was upset and screaming all we had to do was take him to the tank and he calmed down.  He would just stare at the fish, bubbles, colors… I’m not sure exactly what.  So now I really really WANT a fish tank because I saw how much he loves it.

I want to give that kid WHATEVER he wants!  Ehhh he’s going to be so spoiled.  Not really, I will try to show some restraint.

We are just blown away at how much our little baby has grown already.  He’s not so little anymore!!!  Even though he was 8lbs 6oz when he was born, he still seemed so small to us.  Now he’s over 10 1/2 lbs!!!  He looks huge compared to other babies!!!  I feel like he and I should be having conversations with each other!

Here are his one month stats:

Weight: 10lbs 9oz  {75th percentile}

Height: 22.5 {90th percentile}

Head: 37 cm {50th percentile}

On his birth date he measured 8lbs 6oz and 22.5″ long.

At our first appointment with the pediatrician which was 4 days after his birth date, Caden weighed 7lbs 6oz.  He measured 21.5″ long.  When he was born he measured 22.5″ long.  The pediatrician thinks he was just super pliable right after birth, maybe because of the epidural.  That’s why they were able to measure him at 22.5″ long.  At his first pedi appt he kept squirming and wiggling around, it was hard to get an ‘accurate’ measurement.  I think the way they measure babies lengths is a bit inaccurate anyway so it’s hard to be consistent.  They lay him down on the table and mark on the paper where the end of his heel and the top of his head is but if he moves at all….  well you get it.  Either way, they’re measuring that he has already grown an inch!?!}.  I don’t have what his head measurement was at birth written down but I’ll try to get that and update this.  I also need to get his percentile info from his first pedi appt.

But don’t think our little photoshoot was all fun and games… Caden was not pleased.  Probably because as the seconds passed, it was harder and harder to hold his head up.

Caden’s Firsts

1.5.13  Sponge bath  -  He loved it!  The only thing better is the real deal!

1.13.13  Visit to church  -  He slept through the whole service {1hr 45 mins!}.  I mean he paid attention and took notes the whole time.  ;)

1.14.13  Awake smile  -  He smiles quite often if you smile at him and tickle him.  He’s actually awake in this picture but he closed his eyes.

1.15.13  Tears  -  they weren’t streaming down his face but they did well up in his eyes.  I think it was due to a car ride and I couldn’t get back there to console him.

1.18.13  Snow  -  Caden had a blast building snowmen and throwing snowballs at the neighborhood kids.  :)  Nooottttt… he slept through the whole thing.

1.19.13  Umbilical cord  – Finally lost his stump {23 days old/ 3wks 2 days}.  It just rolled off during a diaper change!

1.21.13  Real bath  -  He is a total fan of baths…  he just doesn’t like getting cold so I usually cover him with a wash cloth and continuously pour warm water on him.

1.26.13  Bottle  – He successfully drank from a bottle and Daddy was the first to give it to him!  The only thing is he drinks it so fast that I don’t think his stomach registers that he’s eaten.  So we started letting him eat in .5 ounce increments and letting him have a breather in between.  And we have to burp him in between every ounce or he’ll spit up my liquid gold!!!  Haha.  When we feed him a bottle he drinks 3oz.  No wonder he weighs 10lb 15 oz {as of 2.6.13}!!!

1.27.13  Overnight trip  -  Caden and I went to my mom’s house for two nights while Brandon was on a business trip.  Not the biggest fan of his car seat yet but he’ll learn to love it because we’re road warriors.  :)  I think his unhappiness {I hope} was due to his straps being too tight/not in the right spot.  We moved them to the next slot up and he seems much happier.  Let’s hope this is makes for happier car rides!
